Does having a few drinks cause cancer? Read on to find out.

When I was an intern, my professor had a few interesting ways of imparting knowledge.

We once had very lively discussions around aspirin. Some of my fellow interns were arguing about a patient who had a very high level of aspirin in his blood. The professor asked one of my colleagues, “What’s the normal level of aspirin in the blood?”

The young doctor was very smart so he said, “The toxic level of aspirin is 200-300 milligrams per kilogram of body weight, which works out to be somewhere around 15,000 mg of aspirin.”

The professor simply said, “No doctor, the normal level of aspirin in the blood is zero.”

That’s right! Any amount of aspirin or anything else that isn’t naturally found in your body has the potential to be toxic.

The same goes for alcohol.

The normal level of booze in the body is zero.

And that brings us up to the minute as The US Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, has just issued a new advisory on alcohol and cancer.

Here’s what he said: “Alcohol should carry cancer risk warning labels, not unlike cigarettes.”

The report cites a direct link between alcohol consumption and at least seven types of cancer including breast, colorectal, liver, and mouth.

And 16.4% of total breast cancer cases can be linked to alcohol.

Moreover, alcohol is the third-leading cause of cancer in the U.S. after smoking and obesity.

Drinking can also injure your brain. In fact, in many people, it can lead to cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s.

We’ve been having this discussion for many years and have been ahead of the curve in pointing out the alcohol – cancer – dementia connection.

But there are ways that people can protect their brains and immune systems if they prefer to have a few drinks a day.

That’s one of the avenues we explore very strongly in our Brain Longevity Training Program (BLTT), featuring our brand new updated curriculum.
