Outreach: Senior Services, Inc in Winston-Salem, NC

We are an adult day center that serves a large population of folks with various cognitive impairments. Many of them have a dementia diagnosis. As such, several of the families have been concerned about heredity and ways to stave off decline for themselves. The 4 Pillars of Alzheimer’s Prevention brochure always goes quickly. The Power of Brain Aerobics is another popular brochure.

Above is a picture of the display of information housed at our front door. As you can see, the Alzheimer’s Research and Prevention Foundation materials feature prominently at the top, in both English and Spanish. The information is not only available to our participant families but are also in an area that is easily accessible by other members of the community.

We recently moved to a shared space that we call the Intergenerational Center for Arts & Wellness. In this new space, we have doctor offices, one of which specifically focuses on providing memory assessments and counseling for families (Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist). Other dedicated providers include our local Head Start program (Family Services of Forsyth County), the Sawtooth School for Visual Arts satellite location, the Hispanic League, Winston-Salem State University’s School of Health Sciences PT/OT Department, Hands on Northwest North Carolina (a volunteer service organization), and Second Harvest Food Bank’s Providence Generations Café is on site. There are 13 other community partners that also utilize this shared space periodically. The scope of the possible reach of your materials throughout this community is extensive.
