Many of us know that stress is bad for us, but science has shown that stress can contribute to poor health and even the development of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. During these stressful times we live in, what can you do to protect your present and future health?

Let’s explore how stress negatively impacts your health and some steps you can take to prevent it.

Stress and meditation as the cure.

“Stress hormones appear to rapidly exacerbate the formation of brain lesions that are the hallmarks of Alzheimer’s disease,” according to researchers at UC Irvine.

While some doctors will prescribe pills to reduce your stress, you can also reduce stress naturally through meditation. Meditation itself has been around for thousands of years, but science has only recently begun to explore the benefits to your brain’s health.

Meditation is a powerful tool for brain health. Meditation is so powerful that it may be one of the best holistic remedies for the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

The science behind meditation for a less stressed and healthier brain.

According to MedicalNewsToday, a recent study had “60 older adults undertake a 12-minute daily practice of either a simple yoga meditation called Kirtan Kriya or a music-listening program for 12 weeks… After 12 weeks of practice, the yoga meditation group had higher levels of beta-amyloid 40 than the music-listening group.”

The significance of this finding is that “the analysis also revealed links between increasing levels of beta-amyloid and improvements in memory, cognitive function, quality of life, mood, and sleep for the 3- and 6-month measuring points. The links were much stronger, however, in the group that did the yoga meditation,” according to MedicalNewsToday.
