A Healthy Mind and Body: 5 Incredible Benefits of Daily Yoga

In Alzheimer's Prevention Tips, Alzheimer's Research, Yoga for Alzheimer's

“We have to realize that the era of the magic bullet — drugs for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease — is over. We need to take an integrative or holistic approach, like they do for heart disease. What works for the heart, works for the head.”

1. Mindfulness

Mindfulness is when you’re able to be in the present moment without a worry of the past or future. Yoga is a great way to truly live in the moment. When you practice yoga, and you’re able to focus on the now, you’ll begin to feel more focused and happy.

Mindfulness is a way of meditation and yoga allows it to happen effortlessly. Aside from this, mindfulness brings plenty of other benefits as well.

2. Flexibility

As you practice yoga, you’ll notice in the beginning that many poses are challenging. Yoga instructors and yoga videos make the poses seem simple, but that’s not the case. Almost all yoga poses require some level of flexibility.

When first starting out, you might have a hard time completing some of the poses, which is normal. Try your best to reach as far as you can and do the poses to the best of your ability. As time goes by, you’ll start to gain flexibility and poses that were once challenging are no longer hard to do.

3. Stress Relief

Managing your stress is important not only for your body, but for your mind as well.

When doing your yoga poses, your mind becomes consumed in the moment, and your focus shifts to what you’re doing. Yoga also requires you to focus immensely on your breath and on your breathing.

Breathe in. Breath out. Stretch.

Yoga is a great way to relieve stress. It also helps to complete your yoga sessions in a calm and relaxing environment

4. Exercise

There are different types of yoga that you can try. Some yoga is meant to soothe the mind, body, and spirit. Other types of yoga are meant to give you a good workout.

If you want to get a good workout in while practicing yoga, then look into some of the more intense yoga classes, such as hot yoga or vinyasa.

5. Energy Boost

While practicing yoga, your mind will become relaxed. Your body will become more flexible. When you’re finished with your yoga session, your entire being will become more energized.

Yoga increases blood circulation and opens the chakras. You’ll feel energized and ready to start your day after each session.
